The Secret of Reflexology

Since thousands of years, it is believed that areas on the foot and hand correspond to organs and systems of the body and when applied pressure on hands and foot, it heals the whole body. Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet (or the hands). Reflexology is relaxing and helps alleviate stress.

The theory behind reflexology is that areas of the foot correspond to organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to the foot is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body.

Reflexologists use foot charts to guide them as they apply pressure to specific areas. Reflexology is sometimes combined with other hands-on therapies and may be offered by chiropractors and physical therapists, among others.

Several studies indicate that reflexology reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Clapping and applying oil and massaging feet is an integral part of Indian culture and a secret to keep healthy and fit.

3 types of reflexology

  • Foot Reflexology. Is the stimulation of the foot for health conditions in other parts of the body using specific hand and finger techniques. How to do it? Take a little warm oil, preferably mustard oil and apply on feet. Now start massaging your foot and do this for 15 minutes. By doing this you are stimulating all organs. By doing this massage, whole body organs are stimulated and get healing. In my practice, I have seen great benefit in the health status of people. Make sure that when you apply pressure, it must be little deep and may hurt a little at certain points if there is any abnormality with the corresponding organ.
  • Hand Reflexology. Is the stimulation of the hands for health conditions in other parts of the body. You can do the same procedure with hand also but another option is clapping. Clap for 15 minutes and you get body healing.
  • Ear Reflexology. Massage your ear for 15 minutes every day and see the results yourself.

The big toes are pretty important for reflexologists – they’re where the head, brain, pituitary and pineal glands, and upper cervical spine (neck) reflexes are located. So when doing massage, focus specially on big toe if you have head or neck related problems.

Reflexology offers immense health benefits, few of them are :

Chronic Pain Management

One of the benefits of reflexology is its ability to treat different types of chronic pains, such as neck pain, migraines, headaches, and upper and lower backaches. It relieves tension in the muscles that may often lead to these conditions. Headaches occurring due to stress can also be alleviated with foot massages.

Nerve Health

Reflexology has been known to stimulate different nerve endings. As our bodies age, these nerve endings become less sensitive. Having a foot reflexology can improve the function and reactivity of nerve endings, especially in our lower extremities.

Better Circulation

One of the benefits of reflexology is improvement in blood circulation throughout the body.  Massaging the fingers, hands, feet and ear will significantly enhance circulation to vital organs. The bodily systems function even better as more oxygen is cycled. This also increases metabolism and results in faster regrowth and healing of damaged cells. As per the reflexology as well as Ayurveda, a foot reflexology massage before going to bed can enhance blood flow in lower extremities and ensure a better sleep.

Lowers Blood Pressure

Reflexology technique has been found to lower blood pressure and triglyceride effectively. Massage the solar plexus reflex point. This point can be easily located by squeezing each side of the foot. The visible hollow that forms is where the reflex point is. Press this for a few seconds with your thumb. Follow this treatment regularly to lower blood pressure, prevent anxiety and enhance mood.

Cancer Relief

Reflexology can provide relief from the side effects of various cancer treatments, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Daily massage can also help patients to sleep better, lower the chances of vomiting and other digestive problem and reduce anxiety. Reflexology is also known to increase blood flow and clear neural pathways, which may help to stimulate antioxidant activity and slow the spread of cancer.

Body Detox

Toxins get accumulated in our body due to many reasons including sedentary life style, wrong food choices, medication. Reflexology help in removing toxins from the body. Regular use of reflexology is the key to body detox a good health.
